She announced her engagement over Instagram. Her fiance is Arthur Borges.
In an interview with HOLA! Spain, she first met Borges when he asked for a selfie as a fan on the streets of New York City during the 2021 US Open.
“My hotel was close to Central Park and I was bored, so I thought I should go for a walk,” she said in Spanish about the first time the two of them met.
“I go out and I run into him on the street. Suddenly, he turns and says ‘Good luck at the US Open.’ I was left thinking, ‘Wow, he’s so handsome.’”
The two of them apparently met again a couple more times while she was in Central Park. She would also admit that her attraction for the Borges comes from the fact that he is not in the tennis world. Instead, he works in Fashion and had reportedly popped the question while in Marbella.
“It felt weird,” she said of how she felt before he proposed to her.
“I was thinking something else and then when he proposed I started crying. I didn’t know how to react. I said yes in the midst of tears, it was very romantic.”
Muguruza is a former World Number 1. She has been on hiatus since earlier this year after she struggled with her form.
