Nicolas Jarry defeated Grigor Dimitrov 7-6(1), 6-1 in straight sets on Saturday, winning the Gonet Geneva Open title.

Jarry dominated Dimitrov, who was in his first finals since 2017, by hitting eight aces and winning 89 percent of his first serve points. The match lasted one hour and 36 minutes.

I feel amazing, Jarry said.

It has been a great year. After all the work with my team and family, we are having a great year and I am very happy for that. It is very special. Two finals, one title here. I am very happy.

Back in March, Jarry also won the title in Santiago. To get to his win in Geneva, he had to take down Alexander Zverev and defending champion Casper Ruud.

He will be up nine spots in the ATP rankings following the win.

“It was a very awesome week. Since the beginning my only mistake was one game against Casper,” Jarry told reporters.

He also says that the win gives him a lot of confidence going into the upcoming French Open.

This looks to be a good comeback for Jarry who was slapped with an 11-month suspension back in 2019 after he tested positive for anabolic agent Ligandrol and anabolic steroid Stanozolol at the Davis Cup.

He acknowledges that it has been a long road back.

“I’ve been doing so much mental work, pushing myself to uncomfortable places to be able to understand myself more, and dealing a lot with tough emotions – so very deep things,” he said.

“Last year was very tough because I was doing everything right and I didn’t get any results back. But I think it made me stronger for weeks like this.”
