Emma Raducanu has been granted a wildcard to play in Indian Wells.

She had not played a tournament since she was defeated in the second round of the Australian Open by Coco Gauff.

Back in 2022, Raducanu exited Indian Wells in the second round even after she beat Caroline Garcia in the first round.

The young Brit was plagued by injuries last year that kept her from finishing a number of matches and may have contributed to her many first-round exits.

Since her US Open dream run, she has slipped down in the world rankings.

In addition to Indian Wells, Raducanu has also announced that she will be playing in the ATX tournament in Austin, a WTA 250 event.

After her US Open exit, Raducanu had said that she is excited about rebuilding her ranking, which includes playing in the lower tier events.

Also expected to appear in Indian Wells are Iga Swiatek and Taylor Fritz.

Two big question marks going into the tournament as Rafael Nadal and current World Number 1 Novak Djokovic.

COVID-19 vaccinations had not eased up enough in the United States to allow Djokovic to play. Then there is the question of whether or not he will be fit enough to play after it was announced that he had torn his hamstring muscle.

Nadal, who has won the Indian Wells title three times in his career is recovering from a hip injury.
