Belinda Bencic wins the Abu Dhabi Open title beating Liudmila Samsonova 1-6, 7-6 (10/8), 6-4 in the finals on Sunday, bagging the eighth title of her career.

This is World Number 9’s second title for the season. A few weeks ago, she won the title back in Adelaide.

β€œIt’s been a really tight match, and I’m happy to turn these match points around,” said Bencic.

β€œI just really tried hanging in there and scramble for every point, and just do my best. I proved to myself that I can really fight hard and just stay in the matches and somehow turn it around.”

It was a gripping match against Samsonova with Bencic managing to come back from the brink of defeat.

β€œI’m really happy to walk away with the title here and I think I played some really good matches, but they were also tough,” she added.

β€œI proved to myself that I can really fight hard and just stay in the matches and somehow turn it around.”

Bencic and Aryna Sabalenka are the only two players who have won two WTA Titles in 2023.

The win not only denied Samsonova the title but also ended her WTA winning streak in WTA Finals. Prior to this loss, she was 4-0 in championship matches.
