“The chances [of me returning] are very high. You can come to my house and [see] I have a court.”
Her last match on the WTA tour this season was her third-round loss to Ajla Tomljanovic last month at the US Open. It was widely accepted to be the final match of her career even though Williams herself did not specify when she was retiring.
She was on the West Coast to help promote her company – Serena Ventures.
“I started this company a while ago, so I just jumped right into that,” Williams said. “I didn’t even think about the whole retirement. I still haven’t really thought about it. But I did go on the court the other day and [realized] for the first time in my life that I’m not playing for a competition and that felt very weird.”
“It was like the first day of the rest of my life, and so far, I am enjoying it. But I’m still trying to find that balance.”
Since the US Open, Williams has entertained the idea of coming back to tennis at least once. During a Good Morning America appearance last month, she commented on Tom Brady’s coming out of retirement saying:
“I mean, you never know. I’ve just been saying that Tom Brady started a really cool trend…”
Back in August, she announced in a Vogue write-up that had decided to ‘evolve away’ from tennis and will be focusing on her family and other interests.
The tennis offseason is coming up. With her recent comments, who knows what fans can expect from the former World No.1 in 2023?
