Sebastian Korda Moves to Semifinals of Gijon Open, Beats Andy Murray

American Sebastian Korda moves into the semifinals of the Gijon Open after beating Andy Murray 6-4 1-6 6-1 in the quarterfinals.

Former World No.1 Murray is currently ranked No.48 in the world fell to World No.47 Korda. This is Murrays first tournament since he played in Septembers Laver Cup for Team Europe.

Korda will next meet Arthur Rinderknech. Murray came through the first and second rounds after beating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Pedro Cachin, respectively.

This is the first time that Korda and Murray have met on the court and their Head to Head record is now 1-0 in Kordas favor.

Murray had been hoping for a better run and is on a rally to qualify for the Nitto ATP Tour Finals.

Before his semifinals match with Murray, Korda had beaten Roberto Bautista Agut 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 by hitting 52 winners.

His match with Murray went into a tiebreak that Murray had trouble recovering from. The American gave an impressive rally in the final set. He went on a five-game run before finally serving out the contest and finishing 6-1.

He will next face Rinderknech who managed to beat second-seeded Pablo Carreno Busta 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(16) in a thrilling clash.

With his quarterfinals win, Rinderknech moves to No.51 in the ATP Pepperstone Live Rankings.
