Ekaterina Alexandrova lifts her third career title at the Hana Bank Korea Open, beating Jelena Ostapenko 7-6(4), 6-0.

This is the second time this season that the Top 2 seeded players met in the final. The first time was when Maria Sakkari and Anett Kontaveit met in the finals of St Petersburg back in February.

Alexandrova is second-seed while Ostapenko is first-seed. The two now have a head-to-head record of 5-2. The champion had previously won trophies at Shenzhen in 2020 and more recently the ‘S-Hertogenbosch just this year.

Ostapenko was bidding to become the first player to win the title twice in the tournament’s history. She advanced to the final of the Korea Open after Emma Raducano gave her a walkover for her left glute injury.

“I think it was tough for me to start because I was really nervous and I couldn’t find the rhythm in the first couple of games,” said Alexandrova.

“But the longer we played, the better I felt on the court.”

“I think maybe somewhere in the end of the first set I finally found the rhythm and I just continued to keep it that way in the second set.”

This is one of the best seasons of her career to date.

“You always want to achieve more,” Alexandrova added.

“I want to go higher and maybe end the year top 20 in the best-case scenario.”

The Russian is now set to advance to a career-high ranking of No.21.
