Unlike her sister who has retired from the sport, 42-year-old Venus is still active and has no plans to retire just yet.
“Unimaginable at first. But I have had time to prepare myself. I’m sure she will still hit with me,” Venus said when asked how she felt about Serena’s retirement.
Williams also said that she was likely done with doubles tennis. This comes after she and Venus lost in the first round of the women’s doubles draw of the 2022 US Open.
“I think I’m retired from doubles now,” Venus said.
She has also indicated that she has no plans of playing in any more matches for the rest of the season but is hopeful for 2023.
“No plans for this year. But watch out for next year. Work on my game. Spend time with the family. Time with my teams. And time at home. It’s been a while,” said Venus.
She was also asked about Roger Federer, asking about her favorite moment with the 20-time Grand Slam winner who had recently announced he was retiring from the ATP Tour and will no longer be playing in any more Grand Slam events.
“Winning Wimbledon 2007, I think,” she replied to that question.
After Serena announced her retirement in August, many suspected that her sister would follow in her tracks.
