Caroline Garcia beat Coco Gauff 6-3, 6-4 in the US Open quarters, reaching her first Grand Slam semifinals.

Match Highlights:

Garcia became the first Frenchwoman to reach the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam in the Open Era in 2017. Now, she is the third Frenchwoman to have reached the semifinals since 2006.

She is currently bidding to become the first Frenchwoman to reach the US Open final since 2005 and the first female French player to become a Grand Slam champion since 2013.

“I just go for my shots,” Garcia said, “even when I’m stressed.”

The veteran player ended Gauff’s dream of winning her maiden Grand Slam title at this year’s US Open. She was ruthless against Gauff and did not drop one set.

This has been a great year for Garcia. She had a foot injury early on but has since made a stunning comeback.

“The last couple of months.” Garcia said, “I feel healthy again.”

She is expected to break into the Top 10 of the world rankings by next week.

“I’m looking forward to the next challenge and see what I can improve,” said Garcia. She will next face Ons Jabeur in the semifinals. Jabeur is coming off a win against Ajla Tomljanovic 6-4, 7-6 (4).
