Garcia vs Sabalenka Match Highlights:
It has been an impressive resurgence for former World No.4 Garcia as she took down the current World No.7 to reach her first WTA 1000 finals in five years.
Since June, she has been winning a lot. In fact, no other player has won more matches than her in the WTA Tour in that period. In this week alone, she has posted wins against Maria Sakkari, Elise Mertens, and Jessica Pegula.
She comes into the match as a qualifier and said, “I guess no one expected it, that’s for sure.
“It’s a long way to come from qualies.”
She also added: “First, to be in the final of a 1000 event after so many years, and the scenario of today was just unbelievable.
“We had to stop a few times. We never know when we will come back. It was a long wait, and in the wait, you never know what you are supposed to do, so it was tough.
“I’m very happy with the last preparation for the comeback at 3-1. I was really ready for every point. It made the difference.”
Keys vs Kvitova Match Highlights
This will be the 40th singles finals of Kvitova’s career and should she win on Sunday, this will be her 30th WTA title. The match with Keys took 2 hours and 18 minutes.
“It was an incredible battle,” Kvitova said post-match. “I have to say Madison played a really great match. It was a really, really tight one.
“This is very special, to be honest. I was going to the match today, and I was telling myself that I have never been in the final here. … I had many, many finals but never here. So finally it’s here. Actually, who knows how it will end tomorrow, but this is already a big step for me.”
It wasn’t smooth sailing for Kvitova as Keys gave it her all in the evenly matched game.
The finals match between Garcia and Kvitova is set for Sunday.
