Emma Raducanu Beats Victoria Azarenka in 2nd Round of Cincinnati Masters

Emma Raducanu disposes of Victoria Azarenka 6-0 6-2 in the second round of the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati.

This is the second win in a row, coming off a stunning defeat of Serena Williams in the first round. She is set to face Jessica Pegula in the third round next.

“I was playing a great match for sure and to play Vika I had to stay focused throughout,” said Raducanu.

Match Highlights:

Raducanu’s US Open win last year propelled the virtually unknown teen into superstardom. However, her first full senior tour has not been easy. It has been marked with injuries and a number of first-round exits.

However, her triumph over Williams seems to have reignited the fire in Raducanu and this may just be what she needs to defend her Grand Slam win.

Pegula, however, may provide a sterner test for the teen. Williams may be a tennis great but she was far from playing at her optimum level.

Azarenka also proved to be easy pickings for the Brit. She did offer some resistance but Raducanu still dominated.

“In the second set I could feel the important moments and a couple of turning points that could have made the second set really difficult,” added Raducanu.

“I am really pleased with how I dug in, and serving it out in that last game was really difficult.”

Pegula is coming from a win against Marta Kostyuk 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-2.

American Jessica Pegula is currently ranked World No.8 in both singles and doubles. She is the runner-up of the women’s doubles event of this years Roland Garros.

Her skill level may be the true Litmus Test of how well Raducanu is doing.
