Tara Moore Banned from Participating in Wimbledon Due to Scandal

British No.1 women’s player Tara Moore has been provisionally suspended and will likely miss Wimbledon after she tested positive for a prohibited substance. On Wednesday, the I...

On Wednesday, the International Tennis Integrity Agency announced that Moore’s sample contained metabolites of Nandrolone and Boldenone. The sample was provided when Moore competed in Bogota, Colombia.

Both Nandrolone and Boldenone are on the 2022 prohibited list of the World Anti-Doping Agency.

The provisional suspension for the 29-year-old doubles player is backdated and will keep her from competing in sanctioned events.

Moore went on social media to respond, saying that she never knowingly took a banned substance.

I have never knowingly taken a banned substance in my career. I am investigating how the positive result could have occurred and look forward to proving that I am a clean athlete,” she wrote on Twitter.

“I am deeply saddened by the provisional suspension and hope to be back on the court as soon as possible.”

She then appealed to have her B sample analyzed.

“The sample was split into A and B samples and the subsequent analysis found that the A sample contained Nandrolone metabolites and Boldenone and its metabolite, which are prohibited substances listed in the 2022 World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List. Adverse Analytic Findings for non-specified substances carry a mandatory provisional suspension,” the ITIA said.

The player now has the opportunity to request that the B sample is analyzed to see if that confirms the A sample.

“In the meantime, the player is ineligible to compete in or attend any sanctioned tennis events organized by the governing bodies of the sport from the start of the provisional suspension on 27 May 2022.

Unless there is a development in the case, Moore is likely to miss Wimbledon which is set to start on June 27.

Moore is best known as a doubles player and has won 9 singles titles and 17 doubles titles. One of her best finishes was making it to the third round of the mixed doubles at last year’s US Open.
