Juan Martin Del Potro Exits Argentina Open in a Loss to Federico Delbonis

Juan Martin del Potro has been dropped from the Argentina Open after he lost to Federico Delbonis 6-1, 6-3 last Tuesday.

Del Potro has not played since 2019 because of injuries that were tearful at the end of the match. He later stated that he is yet to decide if he will be playing at the upcoming Brazil Open.

“I will speak to doctors again. I have to take care of my knee and then we will see,” said Del Potro. “I will always leave the window open.

“(But) if today was the last time, I will leave happy,” the Argentinian said. Del Potro, however, did not rule out a future full return.

Del Potro was once ranked No.3 in the world. “This is the moment I hoped would never come,” he said. “I don’t have the strength to go ahead. I gave it all.”

In the past decade, he has suffered from multiple knee and wrist injuries. He is considered one of the best Argentinian tennis players in history.

Delbonis is set to face up against Pablo Andujar of Spain on Thursday.
