This year’s New York’s Met Gala has been filled with celebrated actors, singers, and even players. For many tennis fans, the most surprising, and perhaps the greatest, moment for them is seeing three iconic female tennis players in one frame. The Williams sisters and Maria Sharapova might have shocked their fans for their stunning surprise photo.
During an Instagram Live, Venus Williams explains the interaction they had with Sharapova when a fan asked Venus for the backstory of the interaction.
Venus, the older Williams, shared that she and Serena had been talking about Sharapova before they met her in the Gala, and how they wished that she would come back playing in the WTA tours. When they have met her, they separately told Sharapova what they were wishing for.
Venus also shared that even though players are crushing each other inside the court for years, still they love and respect each other. During their meeting, there were laughter, stories, and hugs between them. At the end of their meeting, Venus formally invited Sharapova to come back on tour.
The former world number one Sharapova had previously revealed in Vogue and Vanity Fair that she was saying goodbye to tennis. Off the court, Sharapova has also proven to be a successful businesswoman and she also built a modeling career out of her fame in tennis. One of the reasons why she left tennis is her shoulder injuries, which she underwent multiple surgeries for it.
