The outburst has to do with Krejcikovas 9-minute off-court time-out that riled Muguruza. It happened when the Czech called for a doctor at 5-6 in the matchs second set after winning the first. As it was also during her break, her time-out off the court ended up to nine minutes.
When Krejcikova returned to play, she was slow and often reached for her towel. This further increased the Spanish players frustration.
Muguruza could not believe she lost the match 6-3, 7-6(4), shaking her head in disbelief. Krejcikova apologized at the net, but Muguruza was still pissed and called her out for being unprofessional.
Afterward, during a brief press conference, the Spanish declined to talk about what happened and let the media judge what to think about it. She did confirm that she was not happy at the end of the game.
With Muguruzas defeat, Krejcikova moves into the quarter-finals to meet Aryna Sabalenka in a match. Whether she will be fit enough remains to be seen given that she was helped out from the court after the victory against Muguruza.
Regarding the issue of time-outs, the medical time-out rules have significantly been scrutinized in this tournament.
