As their match closed, tears streamed in Giorgi’s eyes for beating the World No. 6 tennis player in the women’s division.

The Italian tennis player also defeated World No. 9, Elise Mertens, World No. 7 Petra Kvitova, and World No. 15, Coco Gauff. Her match against Pliskova had resulted in a remarkable record of 6-3, 7-5 on Sunday.

Playing smartly, she took an open opportunity to break Pliskova’s serve, which resulted for Pliskova to throw her racket. After her victorious win, Giorgi shared how happy she is for what she did this week and today’s match showcased how big her improvement is on her gameplay.

Giorgi also said that her father was her coach throughout her tennis career. Although he wasn’t present during her matches in Montreal, they spend a hundred times talking on FaceTime. She also shared that her father would assure her of her improvement. Today, she just secured World No. 71, the highest rank yet in her career.

On the other hand, Pliskova had already achieved 16 WTA singles titles compared to Giorgi’s 2 titles. It is noted that Pliskova had reached the Wimbledon finals last month, however, she was defeated by the World No. 1, Ashleigh Barty. For Pliskova, it was a frustrating result because it’s her third time losing a title during the Final games. However, she noted that losing is normal especially she’s facing really good players in the finals.
