On Wednesday, Rafael Nadal won the second-round at Citi Open over Jack Sock 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(1).

He said after his win, I almost forgot about these things. These things he was talking about were everything tennis tournaments used to be before the pandemic.

He was talking about the full house and the electric atmosphere. He meant the fans clinging at the edge of their seats watching a close match. Nadal recently raved about Washington, D.C., saying he’d never been in the city before his arrival last week. He loved it and mentioned that Washington is beautiful.

Nadal’s opponent in the second round was an American, but the crowd still didn’t stop chanting his name, Lets go, Ra-fa! like how Americans do it. It was a true electric match with the fans seem happy just to be there and cheer whoever gets an amazing shot.

Speaking of amazing shots, Nadal’s match had quite a few, with the Spaniard making most of them in the beginning. He was away from the tour for two months, but it didn’t seem that way. However, by the second set, Rafa had started to falter that Sock even got a heavy topspin over his shoulder.

The worst is Nadal began to show a limp that continued through the match. But he didn’t come to D.C. just to lose, so he fought through the pain and delivered an incredible backhand smash. He won the second-round and is scheduled to face Lloyd Harris but will have to make a difficult decision about his foot.
