American tennis legend Jimmy Connors was arrested on Friday night after getting into an altercation.
Connors, who ranked the World’s No. 1 in the 70s, was enjoying a basketball game between the North Carolina and US Santa Barbara when the incident occurred. He was taken into police custody during the start of game.
Connors got into a confrontation in an area near the Thunderdome’s entrance. He was asked to leave – but Connors refused to comply. As a result, he was later on arrested. A jail employee revealed that Connors was booked and released – no further details have been disclosed.
By early Saturday, November 22, Connors’ camp has not yet been reached for comments.
Connors is a resident of Santa Barbara and is an avid attendee of Gaucho’s games.
The former tennis player is most remembered for his eight grand slam titles and his impressive domination of the tennis scene during the 1970s.
He is also known for his intense competitiveness and fiery temper when he was on the court – a temper that would often prove controversial. His temper even caused him a 20,000 USD fine and a ten week suspension.
Connors also recently stepped down as Andy Roddick’s coach. Connors was Roddick’s coach for a period of two years.
