Karolina Pliskova lost against Ashleigh Barty in Wimbledon final on Saturday.
Unable to control her emotions, she said tears for her loss. World No. 1 Barty triumphed against Pliskova 6-3, 6-7 (4/7), 6-3, taking her second Grand Slam title.
However, the Czech star said she was not proud of her Wimbledon tears. The World No. 35 said it wasn’t her plan to cry on the court, feeling she would cry in the locker room, but not there.
But there were too many emotions, and she was also a bit tired, having been in London for three weeks. All her emotions just went out that she could not help but cry, which she wasn’t quite proud of.
Her loss to Ash Barty is the second time Pliskova lost a major final. The first was at the 2016 US Open when Angelique Kerber had beaten her in three sets. The former World No. 1 couldn’t get past the fourth round at SW19 before 2021.
But her fortune was overturned in this years Wimbledon, successfully winning her matches to reach the final. However, she was 4-0 down in the finals first set, where she lost 14 points.
In the 12th game of the second set, she broke Barty and served for the title before she swept the tiebreaker. However, the second game undid all her work when Barty broke gear and went on to take the title.
Pliskova admitted it was a horrible start. She also had flashbacks of the Italian Opens final when Iga Swiatek blitzed her in 45 minutes, affecting her game. Her next chance is in the US Open in New York that starts next month.
