The Australian star will be playing for her first Wimbledon title. As if a sign, the final also marks the 50th anniversary of Barty’s idol and fellow Australian, Evonne Goolagong Cawley’s first win.

Barty aims to follow in Goolagong’s footsteps in the women’s final as she faces Czech Karolina Pliskova on Saturday. Having a chance to make history tha’ts also a tribute for Evonne is something that truly excites Barty.

Throughout the Championships, the top seeds been wearing a scallop-hemmed dress. This is also her tribute to Goolagong, as the latter wore the same when she won her first Wimbledon title in 1971.

Before the tournament, the two spoke although Barty says they hadn’t been in contact during the fortnight.

According to Barty, her run at Wimbledon has been her more of floating her way through. She said to be just kind of enjoying the weeks opportunities coming her while bidding for another Grand Slam title after the 2019 French Open.

The 25-year-old has only dropped one set to the final. Shes shown her best throughout the series, particularly in the straight-set win she had over Angelique Kerber during the semi-finals.

The 2021 Wimbledon women’s final is special for Barty as shes the first Australian to reach it since Goolagong’s second title in 1980.

Barty thought she might not have been able to play in SW19 due to a hip injury she had at the French Open. It was a touch-and-go, she said, and so thinks its incredible what shed been able to do the last month.
