Emma Raducanu, 18, Earns Straight-Set Victory Over Sorana Cirstea

British wildcard Emma Raducanu continues her dream debut run as she moves to the fourth round of Wimbledon.

The 18-year-old player defeats Romanian No. 5 Sorana Cirstea with a 6-3, 7-5 straight-set victory. This was an impressive feat for the ranked 338th player who only just completed her A-levels.

This years Wimbledon is Raducanu’s first time playing on a show court, stunning fellow players, and viewers alike with her victory eight times in a row. Even Raducanu herself seems cannot believe her winning streak and is very grateful for all the support she received.

Wimbledon is Raducanus biggest court played on so far, and according to her, she tried very hard to hold her nerve for this. With her win over Sorana Cirstea, the young lady is now the youngest British woman to reach the last 16. Her next match will be against Australian Ajla Tomljanovic.

Emma Raducanu is British tennis’ newest star, an incredible competitor who was fearless right from the beginning. She first won her ITF $15k title in 2018, followed by her first ITF $25k title in 2019. Raducanu is young but already has a winning rate of 80%. She won her first junior ITF title when she was only 13.

She participated in the Viking Open Nottingham this 2021 but was defeated by Harriet Dart during the opening round. However, she still reached the Nottingham Trophys quarterfinals. She debuted at SW19 for the first time this year and was handed a wildcard to the women’s singles draw of the Wimbledon.
