November 16, 2008, SHANGHAI, China – Last Sunday, Nikolay Davydenko succumbed to the playing prowess of Novak Djokovic, the third-ranked player in the world, while fighting over the Masters Cup.
The Masters Cup is Djokovic’s latest win after going through six months of not winning a title. The game went on 6-1, 7-5 which ended in a win against the Russian.
When Davydenko failed to get through during the match point, the ecstatic Djokovic pumped both of his fists then threw his shirt, his wristbands, and two of his rackets to the crowd despite the cut in his left hand.
Djokovic said, “But you don’t feel the pain in the moments of happiness.” As he spoke about the gain, believing it to be one of his greatest victories. “I would put it in the same league as a Grand Slam because the best eight players in the world are participating here. It’s a huge achievement for me,” he adds.
Aside from the beauty of the Masters Cup title, Djokovic received $625,000 and a Mercedes SUV – which were a good addition to the glory. As the car was brought into the court when the ceremony was going on, Djokovic got into it and honked the horn.
During the ceremony, Djokovic gave thanks to his family, and dedicated the win to them as well as his team and thanked his fans back in Serbia for their support.
