German Alexander Zverev has paid his way to the third round of the French Open with 3 straight-sets wins.
With a concluding record of 7-6(4) 6-3 7-6(1), the German has once again proven himself in the court when he won the match against Russian qualifier Roman Safiullin on Wednesday. Zverev and Safiullin have never played against each other during Tour-level match, however, they have pitted against each other as juniors.
World No. 182 Safiullin went toe-to-toe battle with Zverev. During the 11th game, Zverev made two double-faults, so the advantage went to another tie-breaker round. Soon after, he recovered and take the lead with multiple aces.
Zverev shared during the interview that a lot of tennis players come in motivated, and they’re all excited to play on the big court. The match with Safiullin wasn’t easy, yet he’s happy that he’s through in three sets.
As he smashed the racket, the German tennis player was still haunted by the double faults he committed in the early game. It’s fortunate for him that he was able to recover from the mistake and uses all of his advantages to win five games in a row.
Zverev, who is considered to be one of the hopefuls to bag the Roland Garros title, has said, that the last two sets could have gone, as he thought he is in control. Nevertheless, he’s happy that he experienced this course of this tournament.
