Pablo Andujar still can’t believe that he beat 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer on Tuesday in Geneva, with a record of 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. This is Federer’s first claycourt match since his loss to Rafael Nadal in 2019, and while he wanted to go back in action on the challenging clay court, still it was cut short by Andujar’s spectacular court performance.

Federer told the media that he has trouble finding his rhythm from the baseline, and he wasn’t able to measure his movements across the court. He also added that he knew he will not win French Open this year, but he also thought that Andujar is a great player. It happened that he couldn’t come up with anything good at the end of the match.

On the other hand, Andujar has been vocal about how excited he was to play against Federer for the first time, and he considered this as one of his dreams. He humbly shared that beating Federer is another level that made him emotional because this was supposed to be Federer’s comeback.

This is not the first time that Andujar has to face a legendary opponent. He had played against Rafael Nadal and was beaten twice as well. Andujar said that he admired Federer and he had a lot of respect for him too. During his games with the legendary tennis players, he would usually shift his focus on himself, because he might get too nervous that he couldn’t compete with them.

Andujar is a four-time ATP Tour finalist and has made his way inside the Top 10 rankings. As of now, Andujar will advance to the next round in the French Open, and soon, he will be meeting more opponents until he gets the French Open title.
