Cameron Norrie Missed Out ATP Title against Albert Ramos-Vinolas

British No.

British No. 2 Tennis player Cameron Norrie failed to bring home the first ATP title after he lost against Albert Ramos-Vinolas from Spain. Norrie is notably remembered because he beat Cristian Garin and Marin Cilic. During the second tour-level final, Norrie had a record of 4-6 6-3 7-6 in favor of the 33-year old Ramos-Vinolas, who seemed to be a better clay-court player than Norrie.

Impressively, Norrie has won 18 matches for the 2021 season alone, which led him to be ranked behind ATP winners Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev. At the same time, he ranked World No. 50, while Ramos-Vinolas made a break on his 46th spot.

Aside from the clay-court setting, Norrie’s racquet seemed to be dysfunctioning and wasn’t able to level himself with Ramos-Vinolas’ skills. He also had a recovering foot injury, which required more attention and treatment.

But even when he lost the game, the match was pretty impressive and the opposing pair serves a final-set tiebreaker. Ramos-Vinolas concluded the game with a victory, thanks to his powerful forehand, comfort court setting, and controlled rallies. Norrie’s racquet errors also add to Ramos-Vinolas’s advantage to win his third ATP Tour title.

Meanwhile, Norrie had noted that he had played his best in clay court in the past weeks, and there is no reason for him not to continue being the tennis player he is today. Sports commentators have noted that if Norrie continued to serve well and improve on returning the ball to his opponent, success is only inevitable to happen for him.
