While Kei Nishikori was scheduled to participate on the clay court at Estoril, and eventually be his big debut, had withdrawn himself from the tournament. Last week, Nishikori had lost himself against Rafael Nadal in the Barcelona Open, so he took a late wildcard into Estoril.
However, things are most unlikely to happen when the Japanese tennis star decided to pull out of the event, and it caused a major blow for the Estoril organizers and Nishikori’s supposed to be contemporary during the tournament, Gael Monfils.
Although Nishikori played fair and square against Rafael Nadal, still he felt that he wasn’t too satisfied with his performance which is why he can’t keep his level for three sets. In his match against Stefanos Tsitsipas, he also played well but this only lasted for a set. Fellow tennis player Seiadoumogera revealed that Nishikori felt annoyed because he’s not playing well throughout the match, which led him not to earn important points.
Shortly after his loss to Nadal, his initial plan is to play Estoril; however, he worries about getting an injury if he would continue. As of now, Nishikori confirmed that he couldn’t give a consistent and confident fight at Estoril because of his right adductor injury, which might cause him damage if he continues the tournament.
Currently, Kei Nishikori ranks World No. 41 at the Association of Tennis Professionals with 1453 accumulated points and remained to be the only Japanese tennis player to have ranked inside the Top 5 in singles.
