Venus Williams, 28, defeated 26-year old Italian Flavia Pennetta during the Zurich open held last Sunday, October 19. The win secured Williams another singles title – her second for this season. She had won her first during Wimbeldon earlier this year. This win also marked her defeat of Pennetta who has beaten her three times before.Venus Williams>

This win secured the American player’s place in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Championships that will be held in Doha, Qatar in November. Williams says that she will go home to the US to rest and prepare for the WTA Championships before moving on to Qatar.

The game played between Pennetta and Williams was an exiting one. Pennetta came into the game after beating Jelena Jankovic. She also had the advantage of her 3-1 win over her opponent. The last time the two players met was in Moscow, where Pennetta triumphed over Williams. Their game went to overtime and that’s when Williams took the game.

During overtime, Williams gained a 6-0 lead over Pennetta, while the Italian player had the misfortune of hitting several netted swings. One of William’s finest moments was when she was able to serve four consecutive aces against Pennetta. The Italian player did manage to keep Williams from hitting her first match point opportunity by swinging a good backhand. However, that wasn’t enough and Pennetta was not able to catch up to her American opponent.
