First seed Djokovic was far too strong for Colombian lucky loser Daniel Elahi Galan winning 6-0, 6-3, 6-2, to book a last 16 clash with Russian Karen Khachanov.
The Serbian dominated all aspects of the match, with an impressive 65% win percentage on his second serve, while he converted seven of his 11 break points in an efficient display.
The win was overshadowed by comments from Djokovic about removing line judges altogether, which comes after he was defaulted from the US Open after hitting a lineswoman with an errant ball struck in frustration last month.
“The technology is so advanced right now, there is absolutely no reason why you should keep line umpires on the court. That’s my opinion,” Djokovic said.
“Of course I understand technology is expensive, so it’s an economical issue and a question mark.
“But I feel like we are all moving towards that, and sooner or later there is no reason to keep line umpires.”
Fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas also cruised into the fourth round on Saturday, but seventh seed Matteo Berrettini was a shock loser, going down in straight sets to German qualifier Daniel Altmaier.
Tenth seed Roberto Bautista Agut was toppled in four sets by countryman Pablo Carreno Busta, while Andrey Rublev and Grigor Dimitrov both progressed.
In the women’s singles on Saturday, 11th seed and two-time major winner Garbine Muguruza were eliminated after a shock 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 loss to 57th ranked American Danielle Collins.
Eighth seed Aryna Sabalenka and 13th seed Petra Martic were also knocked out, while Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin progressed with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Romanian qualifier Irina Bara.
