Outside Forward

The outside forward is a football position that uses 2-3-5 formation. The players that are assigned in this formation are considered the main attackers of the team. They usually play as advanced forward players that are assigned either on the left-wing or the right-wing of the field.

Role of Outside Forward

The outside forward players are considered to be the fastest players and best dribblers on the team. They are stationed on the sides of the field, and their main task is to provide accurate passes within the team for them to score a goal. Players who are assigned to this task are the ones that get the most attention, particularly from their fans. This is due to their designated role to be always in a scoring position.

Outside forward can be midfielders or center, second striker, and a winger. Before the game start, the midfielders take formation at the midfield line. Once the game is at play, their role is to move forward and head towards the goal line of the opponent. If the ball is in their pitch, the midfielders do not go near their goal line. Mostly they stay near the midfield line and let the defensive player do their job. The defensive player will then pass the ball towards the midfielder so that they can head back towards the opponent’s pitch.

Also, outside forward players usually start the game by kicking off, either at the beginning of the game and during halftime. They are often assigned to take penalty kicks as well as corner kick whenever a ball gets out of bounds.

Importance of Outside Forward

The main goal of outside forward players is to score a goal. To be a good midfielder or winger, the player needs to constantly practice to enhance their skill and improve their ability to make a goal. These players need to learn to be fast on their feet as they maneuver their way around their opponent. They also need to practice their dribbling skills so that the opponent will have difficulty in getting the ball.

If a team does not have good forward players, then the chances of their team getting a goal are very slim. Hence, players that happen to be a skilled midfielder or winger gets the most attention.
