Own Goal

rules

An "own goal" is a term which in football denotes hitting the football in the back of one's own goal, thereby scoring for the opposition. An own goal is (usually) an accidental goal and is considered a matter of shame. The player who does this is personally "credited" with the goal; but if the goal is scored after a shot (by the attacking side) is deflected into the net by him, the attacking player is credited with the goal if the original shot was on target.

An own goal cannot be scored directly from an attacking throw-in or a defending free kick and under certain other circumstances.
