Sportivo Belgrano are based out of the town of San Francisco in the Cordoba province of Argentina. The team is a part of the fourth level of Argentine footbal, the Torneo Argentino B division. Founded in 1914, the team plays its home games at the Estadio Oscar C. Boero, a 9,000 seater stadium that was also witness to one of the darkest days in their history.
In 2008, a game against Deportivo Maipu turned sour after several Sportivo Belgrano players, and their coach, decided to pounce on the referee. This led to severe repurcussions including the club President being banned for a year. Several of the players involved in the incident were banned for 30 games while the panel also decided that the team would play three home games behind closed doors and another five games would only have limited tickets available.
