On February 27, 1928 FBC Bari were merged with US Ideale to form Unione Sportiva Bari. The Italian championship was reorganized at the end of the 1928-1929 season and Bari were placed in Serie B.
Bari were quite successful in the 1930s and the 1940s as they played in Serie A for much of those years. They finished 7th in the Italian top flight in 1947.
In the 1950s, though, Bari fell into decline and played for three years in Serie A during this period. They suffered relegation to Serie B and gained promotion to the Italian top flight for the 1963-1964 season and the 1969-1970 season.
Bari regained promotion to Serie A in 1985 but suffered relegation immediately. In 1989 they came back to the top flight and finished 10th in the table in 1990. They went down again and won promotion in 1994, staying there for two years. They climbed back to Serie A in 1997 and stayed there for four years.
Bari came back into the Italian top flight at the end of the 2008-2009 season.
AS Bari play their home matches at the Stadio San Nicola that can accommodate 58,270 spectators. They bear the nicknames “Galletti” and “Biancorossi”.
