Associazione Sportiva Roma, known as AS Roma, is a storied Italian soccer club located in the heart of Rome. Established in 1927, the Giallorossi have a rich history and a passionate fan base, having maintained a presence in Italy's top football division for nearly all of their existence. Renowned for their iconic wine red, white, and black colors, they have achieved significant success, including three Serie A championships.

History

AS Roma was born from the merging of three older clubs, a move orchestrated by founder Italo Foschi. The club claimed its first Italian league title during the 1941-42 season, driven by the impressive 18 goals of local hero Amedeo Amadei. The team faced challenges in the subsequent years, including relegation to Serie B after the 1950-51 season. However, they quickly returned to the top flight, experiencing fluctuating success in the following decades.

The Giallorossi celebrated their second league title in the 1982-83 season and made history by reaching the final of the European Cup in 1984. Their third Serie A triumph came in the 2000-01 season under the guidance of coach Fabio Capello, but they have since struggled to reclaim the title, consistently providing fans with entertaining football.

Longtime captain Francesco Totti, who played from 1998 to 2017, left an indelible mark on the club. As AS Roma's all-time top scorer, Totti made a staggering 786 appearances, netting 307 goals throughout his illustrious career.

Stadium

AS Roma plays its home matches at the Stadio Olimpico, a grand venue located in Rome that accommodates up to 72,698 spectators. The stadium has witnessed countless memorable moments and remains a fortress for the Giallorossi.

Honours

Over its history, AS Roma has collected numerous accolades, including three Serie A titles and nine Coppa Italia victories. Their success on the domestic stage is highlighted by two Supercoppa Italiana wins. While the club has experienced heartbreak in European competitions, finishing as runners-up in both the European Cup and the UEFA Cup, they redeemed themselves by lifting the UEFA Europa Conference League trophy in the 2021-22 season.

The club's fierce rivalry with SS Lazio, known as the Derby della Capitale, adds to the intense atmosphere surrounding AS Roma. With a legacy steeped in history, the Giallorossi continue to strive for greatness in Italian football.
