Telstar is a professional Dutch football club having base in Velsen. This club was established post the merger of two football clubs in Velsen. Nicknamed as Witte Leeuwen (White Lions), the home ground of this team is TATA Steel Stadion in Velsen which has a seating capacity of 3,625 spectators. The manager of the team is Jan Poortvliet.

So far, the team had changed their names respectively, like Telstar from 1963 to 2001, as Stormvogels Telstar from 2001-08 and since 2008 as Telstar again.

Both Stormvogels and the neighboring club, VSSV played in the professional leagues, when professional football was introduced in the Netherlands. Due to financial problems at both this clubs, their professional teams got merged on 17 July 1963. The name Telstar was given to the new club, post the Telstar communication satellite launched that year.

VSV and Stormvogels returned to amateur football. In 2001, Telstar and Stormvogels merged again, forming Stormvogels Telstar. However, the team got disbanded on 1st July, 2008, with the professional branch name as Telstar.

Major Achievements

In 1917, this team was the runner up team of the KNVB Cup and by 1938, they were the winners of this title. Telstar won the Tweede Divisie in 1963 and was promoted to Eredivisie in 1964.
