Associação Académica de Coimbra

The Associação Académica de Coimbra - Organismo Autónomo de Futebol (A.A.C. - O.A.F.), also referred to as Académica de Coimbra, is a Portuguese football club based in Coimbra. They currently feature in the Portuguese Liga.

Coimbra were established in 1876 by students of the University of Coimbra. The club was formed by the merger of Clube Atletico de Coimbra (founded in 1861) and Academis Dramatica (founded in 1837). Initially the club used to feature only university students but that policy was altered in the 1970s.

Coimbra play their home matches at the Estadio Cidade de Coimbra that can accomodate 30,210 spectators. They bear the nicknames “The Proud One” and “The Students”.
