HNK Rijeka is a Croatian football club based in Rijeka on the Croatian coast. They currently feature in the Croation first division.

HNK Rijeka were established in 1925 as Unione Sportiva Fiumana. Fumana originally featured in the First Division, the second level of the Italian Football Championship at the time. They reached the National Division, then Italy’s top tier, in 1928 and featured in the Italian Serie B in the 1929-1930 and 1941-1942 seasons.

In 1946 the club was renamed Kvarner as Rijeka passed from Italy to Yugoslavia. The club initially had moderate success as a Yugoslav club and on June 3,1954 altered its name to “Rijeka”.

Rijeka have been playing in the Prva HNL since 1991 and have usually finished near the top. They finished second in the league in 1999 and 2006 and third in 2004. hey won te Croatian Cup in 2005 and 2006.

Rijeka play their home matches at the Kantrida Stadium that can host 10,600 spectators.

They featured in the Yugoslav First League in the 1957-1958 season and played in the top division until the 1969-1970 season when they got relegated. They gained promotion in 1973-1974 and stayed in the top flight until the break-up of Yugoslav in 1991. They won the Yugoslav Cup in 1978 and 1979.
