Club Plaza Colonia are a football team based out of the city of Colonia in Uruguay. The team is the most successful of all other clubs based out of department of Colonia. Although the team was founded in 1917, they only managed to gain affiliation to the Association of Uruguayan Football in 2000. In 2001, they were promoted to the Primera Division and finished at a respectable seventh place in their first attempt. Their home ground, the Estadio Profesor Alberto Suppici hosts 12,000 people and has seen the likes of Diego Lugano, Daniel Vidal, Mauricio Victorino, Sergio Leal and Mariano Bogliacino turn out in the club’s colours.
