Ascoli Calcio 1898 is an Italian football club based in Ascoli Piceno, Marche. They currently feature in the Serie B.
Ascoli Calcio were established in 1898 as “Candidi Augusto Vecchi” but in 1905 they became Ascoli Vigor. In 1921 the club rechristened themselves as US Ascolana and in 1945 they became AS Ascoli.
In 1955 publishing tycoon Cino Del Duca bought the club and merged it with his own team to form “Del Duca Ascoli”. In 1971 the club assumed the name “Ascoli Calcio 1898”.
Ascoli were promoted to Serie A in August 2005 after Genoa and Torino were relegated from Serie A because of fraud and financial troubles respectively. But at the end of the 2007-2008 campaign they dropped down to the second tier of Italian football.
Ascoli Calcio play their home matches at the Stadio Cino e Lillo Del Duca that can accommodate 20,000 spectators.

Ascoli soon gained promotion to the Serie A for the first time in their history but suffered relegation soon. However, they returned in 1978 and played top flight Italian football for seven years. They were relegated then but bounced back only to drop down again.
