Marcell Jansen is a German football player who is currently playing for Hamburger SV as well as the Germany football national team. Marcell is known for being rather accurate with his cross and pace despite having been blessed with a tall stature. So far, he has played as a left of midfielder or a left wingback, although he was prominently a left winger and striker during his youth years.
At a young age Jansen started playing for youth clubs, one of which was SV Monchengladbach. However, in 1993, he transferred to another youth club called Borussia Monchengladbach, where he stayed until he turned pro in 2004.
Upon turning pro, Jansen made a transition from Borussia Monchengladbach’s youth team to the club’s first team. There, he played for three years, making 73 appearances and scoring 5 goals. By 2007, he got transferred to Bayern Munich and made 17 appearances but was not able to score any goals. Since 2008, Jansen played with Hamburger SV and has made 83 appearances scoring 16 goals till date.
Jansen is also a member of the German national team since 2005. He has already been a part of Germany’s Under-21 national team from 2004 to 2005. So far, he has made 36 appearances for the national team, scoring 3 goals to his name.
He was among the players representing Germany to the FIFA World Cup in 2006 and 2010. In the 2010 World Cup, he was able to score for Germany during the game against the Uruguay national team and eventually place third in the tournament. His last international appearance was Germany's first competitive match post the World Cup, with 1-0 victory in the Euro 2012 qualifying game against Belgium.
