Patrick Helmes is a German football player who was born on March 1, 1984 in Cologne, West Germany. He is best known for being a player of Bayer Leverkusen, and was once the team captain of Koln until September 2007.

Helmes’ career started when he was still a youth player playing for Tus Alchen from 1989 to 1991. He then played in various more youth teams such as SpVgg Burbach, Koln, and Sportfreunde Siegen. Soon enough, Helmes turned pro in 2003 when he joined the first team of Sportfreunde Seigen. There, he was able to make 51 appearances with 22 goals. Then he transferred to Koln from 2005 to 2008 where he quickly rose ranks to achieve team captain status. During his time playing in Koln, he was able to make 65 appearances (the most he has made to date) and 35 goals to his name. However, as of 2008, he already plays for Bayer Leverkusen, and has scored approximately 23 goals to date.

Helmes is also a member of the German national team since 2007. However, he was already a member of the German Under-21 national team since 2005. So far, he has made 13 caps for the national team with 2 goals to his name. Although Helmes has played for the national team, he was not included in the 2010 FIFA World Cup 23 man team that represented Germany.
