Stanislav began his football career at Tatran Presov team in 2000. He played for the team for one season making 42 appearances of 9 goals after which he moved to Slovan Bratislava team. For one season, he achieved 6 goals of 58 appearances and moved on to another team, MSK Zilina in 2003 in the month of December. For Zilina, Stanislav scored 49 goals of 99 appearances. In 2007, the team won the Slovak Championship, with Stanislav scoring 15 goals in the season and becoming second in the Slovak top goal scorer in the list.
He plays in regular basis for the Slovak national football team. He played against the German national team after his move to VFL Bochum, with whom he signed a four year contract. In 2007, he scored his first goal against San Marino and in 2008; he scored two goals in the closing minutes of the match played against Poland. He even scored the first goal in the match against Czech Republic in 2009.

In 2005-06 season, whilst with the MSK Zilina team, Sestak scored 49 goals of the 99 appearances. With this achievement, he became the top scorer of the Slovak league.
