Heiko Westermann is a professional German football player who is currently the defensive midfielder/defender of Hamburg, a club in the German Bundesliga, as well as for playing with the German national team. Westermann has established his presence in the football world, and is known for his impressive all-around abilities including scoring.
Westermann is one of those athletes that started playing football at a very young age. At 5, Westermann was already signed with Schimborn a youth club where he stayed from 1988 to 1994. After Schimborn, he transferred to Hosbach, and stayed there for four years. Soon after that, he was signed by Bayern Alzenau before once more transferring to Greuther Furth from 2000-2001.
His stint at Greuther Furth served as a stepping stone to Westermann’s professional career, as soon enough, he was signed into the Greuther Furth’s second team in 2001 and a year later, he was promoted into the first team. However, his stay with Greuther Furth was not long, as Westermann only spent 3 years with the first team before transferring to Arminia Bielefeld.
Currently, Westermann is signed with Hamburg, but prior to that, he was spending time playing with Schalke 04 where he made 92 appearances and scored 12 goals for the team. Westermann is also a part of the German national team since 2008. Since the year he joined, he has already made 19 appearances and scored 2 goals. He was initially a part of the preliminary selection for the German team who played at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. However, due to an injury suffered, he had to sit out the rest of the tournament.
