Rene Adler is a professional German football goalkeeper in the German Bundesliga and presently a part of Bayer Leverkusen and the German national football team.
Beginning at the tender age of 6, Adler joined the VfB Leipzig youth team in 1991. For about 9 seasons, Adler learned the art of goalkeeping at this academy, before joining the Bayer Leverkusen youth academy. Adler broke into the first team after a suspended Hans-Jorg Butt resulted in a 2007 debut ahead of time.
Adler’s debut was phenomenal! He made ten fantastic saves, helping Leverkusen pull off a surprise 1-nil victory over Schalke. Despite that, he spent a considerable time, between 2003 and 2007, hopping between the second team and the first team squad. With fantastic reactions and brilliant shot-stopping ability, Adler broke into the first team in 2008.
Adler has, since, gone on to become the undisputed number one goalkeeper at Bayer Leverkusen. Already a part of the German Under-21 squad in 2005, Adler was named as the national team goalkeeper in 2008.
He has had his opportunity to take the top spot in the national team, however Manuel Neuer has been in better nick, keeping Adler out of the team. Adler has just had 10 appearances for the senior national team but has been promoted to being the captain at Bayer Leverkusen, for all competitions.
