Carlos Alberto Parreira
Carlos Alberto Gomes Parreira is a football coach who has won the World Cup, the Copa America and the Confederations Cup with his teams. He was also the coach of the South African football team at the 2010 Corld Cup.
Carlos Alberto began his coaching career at Sao Cristovao as a fitness expert. He moved to Asante Kotoko and continued as their fitness expert for a single season. After another season at Ghana, Parreira got into the Brazil setup as the fitness coach. A year later, he joined Fluminense to continue in the same position. During his stint with Fluminense, Parreira was studying to become a coach and was named as the assistant coach for the 1972 Brazilian team going to the Olympics.
In 1976, he joined the Kuwait national team and after a single season as the assistant coach, was made the coach of the team. He helped Kuwait qualify for the 1982 World Cup and in 1983, quit to join the Brazilian national team.
Parreira has spent numerous seasons travelling from one country to another, as their coach. He has, during his tenure, coached Fluminense, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Valencia, Fenerbahce, Sao Paolo, New York/New Jersey Metro Stars, Atletico Mineiro, Internacional, Corinthians, and South Africa.
His biggest achievement was to lead the 1994 Brazilian team to the FIFA World Cup title as well as the 2005 Confederations Cup title. He is only one of two coaches, alongside Bora Milutinovic, to have led five different national teams to the World Cup with Kuwait, UAR, Brazil, Saudi Arabia and South Africa. D
In 2002, he led the Corinthians to the Brazilian Cup as well as the Torneio Rio-Sao Paolo. Parreira has been one of the most successful international coaches to come out of Brazil, playing a part in the last three World Cup wins for the South American giants.
