Javier Martínez Aguinaga is a Spanish football player who presently plays for Athletic Bilbao as a central midfielder in the Spanish first division. His career in an international basis started at the early age of 19 when he appeared for the Spanish under 21 team and represented the nation in Sweden at the European Championships in 2009. In the month of May in 2010, he was selected in the senior side list of 23 by Vicente del Bosque in South Africa for the FIFA World Cup. After nine days, Martinez made his full debut as a replacement of Xavi, of the FC Barcelona team in the 81st minute against Saudi Arabia in Innsbruck, Austria.
Martinez started playing in another friendly match with South Korea and played for 80 minutes of this 1-0 triumph until David Silva took his place.
