Nick Rimando
Nicholas “Nick” Rimando is a professional football player who was born on June 17, 1979 in Montclair, California, United States. He is best known as the goalkeeper of the Major League Soccer club, Real Salt Lake. Rimando is a mix of Filipino-Mexican descent, and is married to Jacqui Little, who is also a football player.
Rimando started playing football when he was still in high school, but he excelled more during the two years of football playing when he was studying at UCLA. During those years, he was able to help the Bruins achieve the College Cup. However, after his sophomore year, he was able to be signed by the MLS with a Project 40 contract.
Rimando joined the professional world on 2000 during the Major League Soccer SuperDraft when the Miami Fusion signed him. Upon joining the club, he quickly took the starting position, overtaking Jeff Cassar. In fact, he started in 22 games as a rookie, and helped the Fusion win the MLS Supporters’ Shield in 2001.
After Miami Fusion, Rimando was transferred to D.C. United during the Allocation Draft. While in D.C., Rimando played in each of the games in 2002 until 2003. However, when his former coach, Ray Hudson, was no longer coaching the team, Rimando lost his starting position to Troy Perkins.
By 2007, Rimando transferred to Real Salt Lake, where he has stayed even until now. Rimando is also a part of the United States national team since 2002, however he has only made 4 caps for the team.
