Hwang Sun-Hong

Hwang Sun-Hong was a world-class Korean footballer, who was born in July 14, 1968 in Yesan, Chungnam, South Korea. He was a very impressive forward or striker who excelled kicking the ball into the net. He was recognized as one of Asia's finest finishers in recent times, and was nominated for the prestigious Asian Player of the Year award in 2002.

He started his football career in 1987 at Konkuk University football club. He began playing as an amateur player in 1991 at Bayer 04 Leverkusen and 1992 in Wuppertaler SV both German clubs. He returned to his country in 1993 and played for Pohang Steelers, a Korean Football League until 1998 where he made 52 appearances and 26 goals. He also played for a J-league Cerezo Osaka in 1998 to 1999, he earned 24 goals in 25 games making him the top achiever in the J-league charts. In 2000-2002 he then transferred to Suwon Samsung Bluewings Football Club and during that year he also became an on loaned player for the Kashiwa Reysol a J-League, wherein he made 34 appearances and scored 12 goals. He was also a regular member of the Korea Republic National team from 1998 to 2002 where he made 97 appearances and scored 49 goals.

He appeared in the FIFA World Cup Finals of 1990, 1994 and 2002. Also, he participated at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. In late 2003, he retired as a footballer and shifted to coaching.
