Bülent Korkmaz nicknamed as the Great Captain was born on November 24, 1968 in Malatya, Turkey. He was a retired Turkish footballer and former manager of Galatasaray. For his whole career he played for Galatasaray in 1987 to 2005, despite from offers of many top clubs.
He entered the Galatasaray youth setup at the age of 11 as a goalkeeper. Bülent's skill was evident at the age of 16, he was offered a contract by Bayer Leverkusen, but he kept his loyalty to Galatasaray and in 1987 he got promoted to the senior squad.
Korkmaz was the first Turkish international to reach 100. He was also part of the Turkish squad at the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals that finished third and, repeated finishing position at the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2003. He also represented Turkey in EURO 1996. He is arguably the most successful sportsman in Turkish football history. He was honored by UEFA for his illustrious playing career.
On February 23, 2009, after the sacking of Michael Skibbe, Bülent became the new manager of Galatasaray, he signed a 1.5+1 year contract without discussing his salary. His resignation letter is accepted by the club board at June 3rd his absence was replaced by Frank Rijkard former Barcelona coach.
