Kim Tae-Young is a retired South Korean footballer, who was born on November 8, 1970 at Goheung, Jeonnam, Korea. Kim was usually positioned as left or center back defender.

He started his football career in 1989 at Dong-A University football club, he stayed there until 1994. For ten long years from 1995 to 2005, he spent his entire club career in Chunnam Dragons, wherein he made 201 appearances and scored 4 goals. Kim is also a regular member of the Korea Republic national football team from 1992 to 2004, where he made 105 appearances and 3 goals for his country’s international matches.

Kim appeared in the qualifying rounds for the FIFA World Cups of 1994, 1998 and 2006, in total he played 14 matches and won 12 games in that event. He was a participant in the FIFA World Cup Finals of 1998 and 2002 wherein he played 9 matches with 3 wins. He was part of the 2002 FIFA World Cup best Korean defensive trio along with players Hong Myung-Bo and Choi Jin-Cheul. After he retired as a footballer, Kim became the assistant manager of the Kwandong University Football Club in 2006 to 2007.

In 2009, he became the head coach of the Korea Republic national under-20 football team that represents the Republic of Korea in the international youth football competitions.
