Mohammad Ali Karimi Pashaki is a professional football player from Iran, who was born on November 8, 1978 in Shahriar, Iran. Karimi currently plays as a midfielder for Steel Azin, a club under Iran’s Pro League. Karimi is also known for being the 2004 Asian Player of the Year, and is often dubbed as the “Asian Maradona.” This is mainly due to the fact that many believe that Karimi is one of the greatest football players in Asia.
Karimi’s professional football playing career started during the time he was signed with Persepolis football club. He then participated in the Asian Club Championship under Persepolis F.C., where his good performance in the club caught the interest of Atletico Madrid, as well as other football clubs in Europe.
It was in May 3, 2005 when Bayern Munich announced on their website that they were able to sign a year contract with Karimi, to play with their club in the Bundesliga. Karimi then became noted as the third Iranian who was invited to try their luck with Bayern.
After spending 2 years with Bayern Munich, Karimi left the club and was soon discovered to have signed a contract with Qatar SC.
As an Iranian national player, Karimi made his debut as a part of the national team on October 1998. Since the time he joined the national team, Karimi has performed well, with approximately 112 caps under his belt, and 36 goals to his name. As a club player, Karimi has scored a total of 80 goals and presumably still counting.
